Felting

March 17th, 2008 by kninjette

I had my first successful felting experience this weekend. Unfourtunately, I made extra room for horizontal shrinkage, but no alterations were made for vertical shrinkage, so the garment didn’t work, but the felting sure did! I’m quite pleased. I used a needle that was 2X the recomended guage, and it turned out perfectly!

Other than that, I think for the next little while, I am going to focus on amigurumi. Make that mobile I’ve been thinking of. But I’ve also kicked around the idea of designing something of my own. I’m also on a desperate search for this pattern

Woven Sweater

I’m so sorry, I was too excited to notice the needle was heading right for your eye!

So, I absolutely cannot knit lace while doing anything else. Like talking. Watching TV, listening to audiobooks, makin’ whoppie, etc. So, I need  a project I can do with what I have on hand that does not require so much concentration. This way at S&B I don’t have to be either:

a) Antisocial

or

b) unproductive

this comment has led me to imagine a photoshoot of me knitting while (ehem) busying myself with other *things*.

back on track, people! ok. so what will it be? Any ideas? please help me!

So, I’m frogging the dress

Not that i don’t like it, but I kind of screwed up on the increases a bit, so it’s misshapen. That’s Ok. at the moment, I’m going to finally use my cashmere, which is knitting up nicely into a cute lace pattern. I Quite like it. This is it’s inspiration:

Frost Flowers Top

It is my first attempt at knit lace, and I have to say it takes patience that I usually don’t have, but I’m glad I stuck through. It looks like ass until the very last minute when it all comes together, but it makes it hard to determine if you are on the right track or not. All in all, I’m ok though. It is sooooooooooo soft and nice and pretty and smells like silk :)

Circular purse has been joined and is brilliant needing only now to be lines for some stability. One more wallet of green/black/cream very hippy masculine has been completed shy of a button. Beret in progress. This is where I sit after three bloody weeks!!!. Plans for 2hr/ day crocheting and at least one item a week are sliding and this is due to a lack of communication between the Crochet Gods and the Gods of my fate. (yes my fate does require the efforts of combined Gods to manage it.) If the Gods of my fate had mentioned they were going to be throwing a fab. boy into the mix they should have discussed it with the Crochet God in advance so that some over crocheting could have been arranged to get some accumulation and give me a grace period. Newest additions to Folk Fest plans are Char and Amy making soap to put with crocheted bath scrunchies and bath bar themed sleeves if you will. Maybe I can get Char to post some pics of her newest creation for some reference.

… after some discussion with Meghan (newbie to our crew) we thought a wonderous combo. Bathbomb Cartman!!! Assuming Amy/Char do bathbombs of course. But even the idea of a bar of soap stuffed into a Cartman doll with which you could wash yourself is pretty great!

what to do? what to do!

well, I’ve got a few project ideas, and I finished Ice Princess, all tied up and ready to go :) Mir left without me being able to fully weave in the last end, but I did about 3 inches, so really, all that needs doing is cutting off the excess, which she can do the morning of, really :)
I’ve got some cool yarn to make a quick makeup purse for the wedding, so I will do that in the next day, and I’m about half way through a crocheted bath towel, semi-stolen idea from lashingtail. kind of just a simple small, cotton blanket, really. but in a nice colorway, I think it will turn out prettily. maybe it will get a matching face cloth and hand towel?

other than those things, I have that yarn I bought for Stargazer. It’s a beautiful eggplant mercerized cotton. Fully washable, etc. I think it will be beautiful :). And, I have one more baby blanket to make. I’m going to have a bit of a time in the next month or two. (maybe 3) But, I’m “reading” the Anna Karenina Audiobook. I’ve read it already, but it’s been a few years, so I thought I’d give it a go again, and I’m glad I am. My attitudes to the characters are a lot different now than they were 5 years ago, and it’s making it a much different read. I’m really enjoying it, in its 38 hour glory!

Well, I finished her last night at work. It was a quick job, that I’ve been putting off a bit. I hate deadlines. Being a procrastinator, I feel the need to put things off until said deadline. bah. When it really should have been done like 4 weeks ago. oh well. It is done now. I do still need to find a pendant for it, and a button for the clasp, but that has nothing to do with the construction. Or does it?

I was going to have Char update my progress bar on comprehension of this site… but after my last blasted attempt to post I am resigned to the fact I will remain at 20%. And THAT is why I love crochet, even when it goes wrong it goes right!

I can’t say if it is a definite new movement or if I am only just now aware of it but I do wonder what has brought people round to knitting/crocheting. It is now hippy chic seeminly more so in the last couple years. I love that it is popular, love the ooo’s and ahhh’s and interest to learn I get from people. I just wonder if it is part of the change in people becoming more grounded, more earth conscious, more tactile.

It seems to match up with the exec.’s that have been giving up the hubbub of city stress to start raising goats, vineyards and the like. People seeking out a way to slow down, use yourself directly to create and build. Being in the University the last few months I see less of it as the lot here are gogogo and are all in their heads and books and degrees but I saw it travelling and just wonder, is there a likemindedness and is that one word.
